Fintech leader focuses on developing strong workplace culture, employee success

May 10, 2022

This week’s Up-and-Comer is Jen K. Miller, director of employee success at Central Payments and Falls Fintech.

Name: Jen K. Miller

Age: 35

Hometown: Colby, Wisconsin

What brought you to Sioux Falls?

Three things: work, family and friends. My hubby, Aaron Miller –Miller for short – grew up in Edgerton, Minnesota, and much of his family and many dear friends – who I’m now blessed to call mine as well – remained in the area. After receiving my MBA in leadership and ethics, LifeScape, a beloved nonprofit in the Sioux Falls area, became my career home for several years.

What keeps you in Sioux Falls?

The calm and predictable weather, of course! More seriously, though, Central Payments was drawn to my passion for people and drive to establish healthy work cultures via LinkedIn. Their investment in my career experience and aspirations thus far has me and my better half eager to make Sioux Falls our home. Since moving to Sioux Falls, I’ve had the pleasure of serving in roles that support my passion to work with incredible people and to spend my free time with those I love. Sioux Falls has been a wonderful place to establish roots and enjoy memorable relationships and spontaneous friendships.

What’s your favorite thing about your job?

Being able to connect with people, hear what inspires them, and create a way forward to fulfill their passions. My personal mission is to be a positive force of influence and empower people to thrive. Central Payments has made this personal mission possible and has allowed it to come to fruition in several ways as their first director of employee success.

How did you get connected to your industry?

Put simply: Trent Sorbe and Nikkee Rhody. Trent found me on LinkedIn and pursued an introduction, wherein mere moments – through what turned into a several-hour interview – Nikkee Rhody made it an easy decision to join Central Payments and Falls Fintech due to her incredible leadership style and sincere love for people!

Describe Central Payments in three words.

Infused with passion!

What is something someone might be surprised to learn about you?

My husband and I took to life on the road in an RV for one whole year. We traveled the states in our first officially purchased home together, our RV. She’s parked for summers now up at Lake Shetek for weekend camping bouts, though our first memories with her, traveling state to state, made for some of the absolute greatest of our lives!

What’s your favorite way to give back to your community?

To foster homeless and abandoned canines. We’ve had the incredible blessing of caring for, training and re-homing 40 homeless pups thus far. Since moving to South Dakota, we’ve partnered with the Tracy Area Animal Rescue, TAAR, to continue loving on these incredibly courageous animals who bring so much joy to families who commit to bringing them into their homes. These become their “furever” families.

What’s one business you’d like to see in Sioux Falls that isn’t here now? Mobile Year-Round Pup Treadmill Time!

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I see myself graduated with my Doctorate in Strategic Leadership and Business Management by the summer of 2023 and fully invested in developing wholesome workplace cultures and stellar leadership in a community-centric organization and, of course, with at least 10 glorious stray pups at my side!
